BANTA, C D, P O Metamora; was born in Mercer County, Kentucky, July 3, 1809. He was raised on the farm, until about the age of nineteen years, when he learned the trade of a wagon maker. In 1832, Cornelius came, with his father’s family, to Holland’s Grove, now Washington, Tazewell County, Illinois. In August 1833, he came to his present home near Metamora, Woodford County, Illinois and entered 160 acres of land from the Government, to which he has added from time to time until he now owns 243 acres in his home farm, valued at $65 an acre. Cornelius was married in 1839, to Miss Elizabeth Stine, of Worth Township, Woodford County, Illinois, who died in 1859; they had five children, three of whom are living — George, Chas D and Cornelius J. Cornelius married again August 23, 1860, to Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, whose maiden name was Strawser; they have four children living — Abraham L, John L, Frank D and Archie D.
