One of the best known and highly regarded attorneys of Woodford County, Illinois; James Albert  Briggs was born February 12, 1839 in Willet, Cortland County, New York; is the son of John and Margaret (Jones) Briggs. BROWN, W P (Welcome Palmer), attorney at law and farmer; was born in Otsego County, New York, April 3, 1812; his father died when he was a child, leaving him but a limited patrimony; he received an academic education at Bridgewater, New York, and at the age of 19 years began the study of law, and came to Illinois in 1833; he was admitted to the bar in Jacksonville the same year, and settled in Bloomington and began to practice law.
