The funeral of Thomas Edward Streenz, 35, RR 2, Saybrook, McLean County, Illinois, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook, the Rev. Patrick W Cox officiating. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook.
Mr. Streenz was dead at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 1995 after an explosion of a wastewater storage tank in East Chicago, Indiana. Memorials made be made to the Thomas Edward Streenz Memorial Fund for his children’s education in care of the Bank of Gibson City.
Mr. Streenz was born February 18, 1960 in Gibson City, Ford County, Illinois, a son of James G and Wilma F Schantz Streenz. He married Cheryl R. Thorndyke July 29, 1978 in Saybrook.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryl; his parents, James and Wilma Streenz, Saybrook; a son, Mark Edward, at home; two daughters, Kristina Gale and Bethany Nickol, both at home; four brothers, Daniel, Colfax; Steve, Arrowsmith; David, Tucson, AZ.; and Bobby, Saybrook; and a sister, Nancy Sexton, Tolono.
Also surviving are his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Butch and Minnie Thorndyke, Saybrook; three brothers-in-law, Randy Thorndyke, Eureka; and Danny and Troy Thorndyke, both of Saybrook; and close friends, Gary and Julie Coit, Gibson City. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
During grade school and high school he delivered the News Gazette and The Pantagraph newpapers. He was a member of the Gibson City Moose Lodge. He enjoyed reading, horseback riding, hunting and country-western dancing. He was a 1978 graduate of Saybrook-Arrowsmith High School. Thomas Edward Streenz had worked at Coile’s Diesel, Saybrook, for 10 years and was working for Phillips Pipeline Co, out of Saybrook. Contributed by Gail Hutchcraft
